Message from the President

Dear Members

I hope this letter finds you well and excited for the upcoming season. 2018-19 is shaping up to be a great year for speedway with some exciting innovation taking place at Speedway NZ.

Firstly, the new team that makes up your Board of Directors have been fantastic and have worked hard over the last 9 weeks to incorporate stakeholders desires in their decision-making process, whilst also setting a strategic direction that will be robust for years to come.

The most noticeable change you will see this year is the focus of the Board to ensure that they do not interrupt competitor’s ability to compete or promoter’s ability to promote, and that they do this whilst meeting the various legislative requirements required of them.

A key area of focus of the Board has been communication, this will see changes for both promoters and competitors with a change to the email structure and all future correspondence being directed via Head Office. This will benefit stakeholders greatly by speeding up the process, ensuring efficiency and adding transparency.

The new Board has made some big changes around Senior staff levels, the structure and the way things happen at track level. The Board has also made internal changes, with the majority of portfolios being headed up by two directors to add both transparency and value to those groups.

Gone are the suits of old that set us apart from our stakeholders, instead the Board have moved forward, going with a smart team dress approach to highlight that we are just like all of you, a team that have a great passion for Speedway in New Zealand.

One of the biggest changes to date, is that the AGM & Awards venue has moved, to a venue that adds value, is desirable and will cater for more members to attend.

As the Board transitions towards governance, the number of Board meetings has reduced, cutting costs considerably for the organisation. The Board throughout the transitional period have remained flexible and have committed to address members urgent business promptly by conference call.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Speedway NZ staff for their hard work, commitment and ongoing support as we transition through this restructure process.

I ask that our stakeholders are patient while we implement and perfect the changes.

I wish you all a fun and successful season.

Yours in Sport
